Badger Meter launches the next generation of intelligent electric valve actuators.

SEVA Regelventil

Since 1905, Badger Meter (NYSE:BMI) has earned an international reputation as a leader in the development and manufacture of flow management solutions.

Today we are pleased to release our new SEVA (Smart Electric Valve Actuator). The SEVA has been designed to reflect a cost sensitive solution that has best-in-class features within the electrical actuator market. The SEVA was designed for extreme conditions with military grade components while providing the accuracy and repeatability the market demands. The initial release will include a 100 pound and 200 pound model. These models are created to provide our next generation of technology to replace our longstanding electric actuator (EVA-1, EVA-100 and EVA-200).
The SEVA is immediately available with both a 100 and 200 pound max thrust models. These models will have the ability to replace Research Control® valves historical electric actuator offering of the EVA-1, the EVA-100 and the EVA-200.
The Industrial Ethernet Protocol (Ethernet/IP) was originally developed by Rockwell Automation and is now managed by the Open DeviceNet Vendors Association (ODVA). The SEVA is an ODVA certified product. The SEVA offers a Dual Port Industrial Ethernet card which will provide a dynamic solution for customers who demand a higher level of information in their systems. The SEVA allows for both linear and ring network topology (DLR, Device Level Ring). Further data protocols are in process and will be available shortly.
The control valve market needs the highest level of accuracy available. The SEVA was designed to help our customers achieve this through our position accuracy of ±0.1% of full scale.
SEVA features an ability to select one of five positions when there is a loss of power (Continue Operations, Full Closed, Full Open, Hold Position or Target Value).
Additionally the selection of one of four positions when there is a loss of signal power (Full Closed, Full Open, Hold Position or Target Value). Both the Full Closed and Full Open positions are defined during the setup of the actuator.
With an internally powered (active) feedback option, the electric actuator can actively communicate its stroke position to the control system. The feedback sensors are crucial applications that are more critical in nature.
The SEVA was designed to minimize the amount of models needed to work with different electrical demands. Its universal AC input with voltage protection will work with 115V AC, 230V AC and 24V DC power supplies. This feature provides simplicity and confidence that the SEVA actuator will provide a single source for your different process needs. Manually operation of the actuator is possible for emergency cases.
The analog input signals could be from 4-20mA, 0-5V DC or 0-10V DC. Each signal can be used with the SEVA with the proper configuration. Surely the actuator can split the incoming 4-20 mA signal and use the “Lower Range” of the signal (4-12 mA) for full stroke operation or the “Higher Range” of the signal (12-20 mA) for full stroke operation. The type of split range can be changed. Additionally the option to include two user-adjustable limit switch outputs is available.
Providing intelligent process control parameter is at the core of the SEVA. The SEVA will provide an ability to customize a control solution with alarms, process safety features, performance parameters, simplified setup and a level of overall intelligence. This SMART SEVA actuator will help drive choices from preventative maintenance schedules to opportunities to fine tune your system performance.
With all its functions, the actuator is technically equivalent to a pneumatic system with positioner. Since no compressed air treatment is necessary, the cost of operation and maintenance, are significantly lower.
