Flow measurement in natural flowing waters

Basic principles
Depending on flow or outflow, characteristics of flowing waters can be concluded as a basis for the values in respect of mean or flood flow. Registration of accurate measured values has a great impact on water management and on hydraulic engineering investment costs.
For determining the flow, flow speed must be measured on a water point with defined flow
cross-section. The measured data are processed, e.g. for:
- obtaining the proportion of water level and flow (drainage diagram)
- obtaining the proportion of water level and flow speed (medium speed)
- obtaining the flow speed by water cross-section (diagrams with same flow speed are in flow field connecting lines of all points with the same speed)
